Mainstream Support:

End of life for this product was on the 10th April 2012.

Microsoft will offer mainstream support for a minimum of 5 years from the date of a product’s general availability. For example, if you buy a new version of Windows and five years later another version is released, you will still have two years of support left for the previous version.

Extended Support:

Microsoft will always offer extended support for their products and Windows Vista is no different.

Microsoft will offer extended support for a minimum of 5 years from the date of a product’s general availability (10th April 2012). With Service pack 2 installed this date is 11th April 2017.

Once this date has past, Windows will not stop you from using the product you have paid for. It simply means that you will no longer have the support you once had, unless you purchase a future version of Windows. That support covers security, updates, bug fixes and new features.
